Dog kicker 'made up' military service

A Queensland man who faced court for kicking an airport sniffer dog has now been accused of making up claims he was a returned soldier.

Ian Robert Crowden, 39, was fined $1000 last year for kicking a customs dog at Gold Coast Airport and obstructing police.

During sentencing in October, his lawyer told a Southport magistrate that Crowden had been a military sniper who had served in Timor, Afghanistan and Iraq.

Crowden appeared in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Wednesday charged with attempting to pervert justice and falsely representing a returned soldier.

Police prosecutor Senior Sergeant Mark Gorton said Crowden had instructed his lawyer to make the submissions relating to overseas army service and the magistrate had referred to it while passing sentence over the dog incident.

Snr Sgt Gorton didn't oppose bail and Crowden was released from custody.

The case was adjourned until February 7.
