Gold Coast obstetrician accused of driving on ice

A Gold Coast obstetrician has been accused of driving while under the influence of ice.

According to court documents, Dr Ashraf Hanafy was pulled over by police for a roadside drug test on June 15 and returned a position indication for ice.

Officers then raided his Reedy Creek home and allegedly found nine grams of ice,  135 grams of cannabis, 27 and a half MDMA tablets and eight grams of magic mushrooms.

The magistrate refused an application to return his Australian passport. 9News

Dr Hanafy delivers multiple babies a week at John Flynn Hospital and was an associate professor at Bond University.

When he was charged he had to give us his Australian passport.

The magistrate today refused an application to have it returned so he could visit his sister in New York.

Dr Hanafy will return to court in two weeks.
