Disability support provider rules relaxed

Small businesses such as speech pathologists and assistive technology providers will find it easier to offer disability support services next year.

Registration rules for the National Disability Insurance Scheme are being relaxed.

Disability support providers will no longer need to undertake a certification audit based solely on whether or not they are incorporated businesses.

Instead, audits will be based on the level of risk associated with the supports provided to participants.

Government Services Minister Stuart Robert is confident the changes will simply registration without reducing safeguards for NDIS participants.

Mr Robert said existing regulations were placing a disproportionate burden on some NDIS providers, particularly small businesses delivering lower risk supports such as therapies, home modifications and specialist equipment.

"The rule changes announced today are a win for the vast majority of NDIS providers that are small businesses, such as speech pathologists, occupational therapists and assistive technology providers," he said on Wednesday.
