Diggers attract more tweets than boy band

More Australians tweeted about fallen diggers than the Melbourne Cup this year.

Remembrance Day was 2014's most tweeted moment ahead of federal budget reaction, major sport events and Aussie boy band, 5SOS.

Five sport items, including AFL player Jack Viney's successful appeal against suspension, the Socceroos' performance at the World Cup and the Melbourne Cup made the Top-10 list.

The prime minister's cancelling of a Deakin University visit in the wake of the federal budget came No.2 on the list, while the student protest during the live broadcast of the ABC's Q&A program came in eighth.

Aussie boy band, 5SOS (5 Seconds of Summer) made the list twice for their MTV Europe and Video Music Award wins.

New Zealand singer Lorde took out the Golden Tweet after comparing a photo-shopped image of herself with an unaltered photo and reminding her followers "flaws are ok".

The images were retweeted more than 73,600 times.

Gold Coast pop singer Cody Simpson is the nation's most followed person with 7.2 million followers.
