Missing Perth woman's brother fears 'foul play' two months after disappearance

A brother of missing Perth woman Dianne Barrett fears she has met with foul play, two months on from the 59-year-old’s mystery disappearance.

Dave Barrett ruled out suicide and said the longer she was missing the greater the chance she had been harmed or worse.

“I'm thinking foul play, but how serious or to what degree I'm unsure of,” Mr Barrett told 9News. “This is totally out of character. I'm toying with the idea she could be being held against her own will. I can't think of any other reason because she hasn't showed up anywhere.”

The teacher and musician’s bank account has not been used since May 11, when CCTV captured her buying flowers at Bunnings.

Police say she arrived home after shopping and was only reported missing by a neighbour on May 24.

Her dog was found inside the Ridley Way house, the fireplace was switched on and Ms Barrett’s car was in the driveway.

Days of searching nearby bushland failed to find any clues.

“She's just a simple, caring person who would bend over backwards for anybody,” Mr Barrett said.

“I can tell you right now that having someone missing in the family is no laughing matter. The family suffers. I'd change places with my sister in the blink of an eye if I could.”

He told WAtoday and 9News that his sister’s mobile phone was also missing and was surprised technology had not helped track its location.

The family, ahead of WA Police Missing Persons’ Week, was also keen to know if the set of door keys found inside the house were the only ones their sister used.

“In Dianne's best interests I'm here, and to support Missing Persons’ Week, because I know she'd be here for me so I'm here for her on the off chance it triggers something, some memory from someone in the public who saw her.”
