Device charges smartphones in just 30 seconds

An Israeli tech company claims it has developed a new device that charges a smartphone in 30 seconds.

Tel Aviv-based StoreDot has created a battery that can store a much higher charge more quickly, according to Yahoo!

The battery uses nano-technology, such as bio-organic peptide molecules, to create 'nanodots'.

Nanodots alter the way a battery behaves to allow it to rapidly absorb and retain energy.

“These are new materials; they have never been developed before,” StoreDot CEO Doron Myersdorf said.

The company anticipates it will bring its flash charger to market in 2016 after working through existing size concerns.

The current prototype is too bulky to be used with a smartphone.

Mr Myersdorf expects a fast-charge phone would cost between $116 and $175. The company has so far raised $48 million from two rounds of funding for the project.

In related news, designer Tsung Chih-Hsien has created tiny cardboard capsules that plug into your smartphone when you're without a charger.

The disposable batteries, also known as the Mini Charger, are currently only at the concept phase but if they make it into development will be available in two, four or six hour varieties.
