A rail maintenance vehicle has derailed on the Sydney Harbour Bridge, forcing commuters to find alternative routes to work.

The line was closed in both directions from North Sydney to Wynyard after the vehicle had its accident near Milsons Point.

Sydney Trains issued a statement saying bus companies had been contacted but it was unknown when alternative transport would arrive.
