A trip to the dentist could soon be a little more comfortable, with $207 million in Victorian government funding for equipment upgrades including new chairs.

The money will also cover treatment for 332,000 patients and upgrades to digital radiography equipment and sterilisers, Health Minister Jill Hennessy said at the Royal Dental Hospital.

"Investing in dental health care is as important as other areas of health," she said.
