Delays have cleared after a multi-car crash and fuel spill on a major Melbourne freeway this morning.

Four of the five citybound lanes on the CityLink/Tullamarine Freeway near Bulla Road in Essendon were closed after three cars and a truck crashed about 7.35am.

Footage from the 9News helicopter showed the pile-up along with fuel spread across four lanes.

A Fire Rescue Victoria spokesperson said crews deemed the scene under control within 20 minutes.

However, motorists faced delays of up to an hour, while paramedics treated one person at the scene before transporting them to the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
