Defence undertakes to recycle tyres
AAP
Defence has promised to properly recycle about 40,000 vehicle tyres it disposes of each year.
Environment Minister Greg Hunt on Wednesday announced that Defence, which operates one of Australia's largest vehicle fleets, was signing on to Tyre Stewardship Australia.
The organisation was founded by tyre importers and aims to increase domestic tyre recycling, expand the market for products made from used tyres and reduce the number of tyres that end up in landfill, illegally dumped or exported, mostly to Vietnam.
