Defence contractors face safety charges

Two defence contractors are facing work health and safety charges after a worker was almost crushed by an army vehicle.

Two Thales workers and a Linfox employee were towing a damaged Bushmaster vehicle to a recovery truck at Brisbane's Damascus Barracks in 2015.

It rolled forward and pinned one of the Thales workers, leaving them with serious injuries.

Both Linfox and Thales are facing four charges of failing in their duties, with each offence carrying a maximum penalty of $1.5 million.

It will be alleged the workers did not receive adequate training, the Bushmaster was not properly towed and was not secured using wheel chocks.

The matter will appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court next month.
