A deadly eastern brown snake has been captured lunging at a cameraman after catchers in Newcastle released it back into the wild.

Footage of the run-in filmed by William Marmulla of Native and Feral Pest Management even captures the sound of the feared reptile's jaw snap closed.

Marmulla, who describes himself on Facebook as Will Dundee, was tasked with tailing the snake with a GoPro attached to the end of a three-metre pole during its release outside Clarence Town, near Newcastle last month.

But once freed, it didn't take too kindly to being filmed, rearing up and striking the camera.

The ferocity of the snake's attack even shocked the seasoned captors.

"That was awesome," one of them is overheard saying.

Native and Feral Pest Management, who service the Newcastle and Hunter areas, said they shared the clip to "show what this incredible creature is capable of".
