Dead family of veterans can come home

Family members of war veterans buried overseas will be brought home to Australia if their loved ones wish.

Legislation that passed parliament on Monday allows repatriation of eight service dependents buried in Malaysia, and also enhances the vocational rehabilitation scheme, designed to help veterans find or continue in suitable work.

The federal government split the legislation, allowing contentious sections that raised concern among Labor, the Greens and independent senator Jacquie Lambie to be debated in 2016.
