David Morrison under fire for 'disgusting' $200,000-a-year diversity job

Australian of the Year David Morrison has been slammed for securing a cushy $200,000-a-year job as diversity adviser that will only require 25 days work a year.

Morrison won the $1000-an-hour job with Deloitte Australia in September, four months after resigning as chief of the army, The Daily Telegraph reports.

Veterans have raised questions about the appointment, given Deloitte was awarded a $2.6 million contract to revamp the army's website while Mr Morrison was army chief.

David Jamison, national president of the Defence Force Welfare Association, branded the cushy job "really disappointing".

"It gives the perception that things that he did in his position as chief of army have led to an offer, which he has accepted," he said.

Mr Morrison has refused to comment on the appointment.

The former army chief has been under fire since being awarded the Australian of the Year title last month.

Almost 7000 people have signed a petition calling for Mr Morrison to resign for using his acceptance speech to champion gender equality and an Australian republic rather than discussing mental health and suicide among soldiers.

Independent Senator Jacqui Lambie used parliamentary privilege last week to accuse the Australian Defence Force of covering abuse cases.

She accused Mr Morrison of being complicit in the cover ups.

"He’s got a guilty conscience, he’s guilty as hell, he knows that. Get out of the game, because I’m coming for you," she said.
