Date set for 'positive' NSW budget

The NSW government will hand down its budget on June 17 and do "everything possible" to maintain the state's triple-A credit rating.

Treasurer Mike Baird used question time on Tuesday to set a date for the 2014/15 budget, which he said would outline the O'Farrell government's "positive economic plan".

"We will continue to take the decisions that puts downward pressure on expenditure, downward pressure on debt, increases the infrastructure spending and gets this economy moving," he told the chamber.

There's speculation that NSW risks losing its triple-A credit rating, after Standard and Poor's in 2012 revised its outlook on the state to "negative".

Mr Baird said the government would do everything possible to rein in debt.

"We will do everything possible to maintain our triple-A credit rating," he said.
