Ever seen a Labor senator in a jumpsuit?

Opposition backbencher Sam Dastyari has donned some rather unparliamentary attire to take part in the infamous Parkes Elvis Festival.

In a video posted online on Sunday, Senator Dastyari gathers tips from the Parkes mayor, festival founder and fellow enthusiasts of the King for the best way to transform himself.

"Look at you, you're just about there man. You've got the sideburns, got the hair," one festival goer tells him in the central NSW town.

Another suggests he needs a nose job.

"What, you can't have a Middle Eastern Elvis? It's Halal Elvis!" Senator Dastyari responds.

The NSW senator finds himself an open-necked, bedazzled jumpsuit, a few gold chains and some large sunglasses to join the annual festival parade - although he stops short of blue suede shoes.

"I never thought I'd be in Parkes for the the Elvis festival let alone actually in the the Elvis festival and I've got to say, this is way too much fun," he says.
