Dastyari spells out his regret
WHAT DASTYARI SAID AT HIS PRESS CONFERENCE
ON HIS REGRET:
"I've been counselled very strongly by the Labor leader and I'm sorry.
"I acted first and thought later. The lesson for me out of this is to stop, think and actually reflect first before acting.
"I'm here to fess up and say I was in the wrong and I should have paid it myself.
"I incredibly kinda regret it.
"I should have made the payment myself, I didn't - I'm in the wrong."
ON WHY HE DID IT:
"I did not reflect."
ON CALLS FOR HIS RESIGNATION:
"I haven't offered and I haven't been asked."
ON HIS SOUTH CHINA SEA COMMENTS:
"I am not aware of those being my exact words.
"I support the Labor Party position on the issue of the South China Sea and if there is an instance in which I have misspoken or been misquoted, then that is wrong."
ON WHY HE PICKED TOP EDUCATION INSITUTE TO PAY HIS DEBT:
"Top Education is a firm that I knew in Sydney. (But) it would have been inappropriate, regardless of who I had asked."
