Dashcam shows cyclist hitching a ride on a Perth truck

A dashcam has captured the tense moments a cyclist hitched a ride on the back of a truck on a Perth road.

The video, reportedly filmed on the Great Eastern Highway in Ascot on Wednesday afternoon, shows the young cyclist overtake traffic before grabbing the back of a prime mover.

Motorist John Richards, whose dashcam filmed the stunt, told The West Australian the cyclist had been pulled by the truck for about 30 seconds before he exited off the road.

“It’s like something out of a video game. He started weaving about and I started thinking about the consequences – that truck’s got 18 wheels on it and there’s all this traffic around us,” Mr Richards said.

He also claimed the young cyclist was not wearing a helmet, and said surrounding motorists were hesitant to overtake the lorry.

“Potentially I could have hit him,” he said.
