Darwin bouncer filmed in racist rant
A bouncer at a Darwin strip-club has been filmed telling a man he wasn't Australian because he was a "f---ing Indian" in a racist tirade.
Waqas Haider, who became an Australian citizen in 2013, told the NT News he wanted an apology from the guard, who was filmed hurling insults during the lengthy incident.
Much of the video is censored due to it's explicit nature but the bouncer can be heard clearly at several points calling Mr Haider a "boat person" and telling him "it’s our country. Australia mate. White people".
"You’re a f---ing Indian...have respect...go complain to the f---ing government, they’ll kick you out."
When accused of being a racist the bouncer responds "that's right, we're all f---ing racists".
Mr Haider, 28, was born in Pakistan.
He told the NT News the argument had started when he complained about a number of balloons which had been put on the road and that he had released the video to try to pressure the club to apologise.
"I do not have money to afford federal court’s lawyer's fee," he said. "Does it mean I can be berated and humiliated anywhere due to my race?"
"If they said: 'we apologise, we’ll train the security guard, it won’t happen again' - that's fine."
Management for the club - the former Honey Pot on Darwin’s Mitchell St - did not respond to requests for comment but told the UN Human Rights Commission their security did not recall the incident.
