Dangerous driver allegedly hits speeds of up to 182km/h on Ipswich Motorway

A man has been charged after allegedly reaching speeds of 182km/h and weaving amongst traffic on highways in Brisbane and Ipswich.

A police helicopter observed his car travelling at high speeds on the Gateway Motorway, in the outer Brisbane suburb of Drewvale, about 10pm Saturday, police said.

Footage shows the car then travelling along the Logan and Ipswich Motorways at high speeds, weaving between other vehicles.

Initial estimates suggest the car reached speeds of 182km/h at Goodna, police said. 

The helicopter then tracked it driving to a property in the Ipswich suburb of Riverview, where officers later arrested a 30-year-old Redbank Plains man.

He has since been charged with a string of driving offences, including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, driving without a licence, driving an uninsured vehicle, driving an unregistered vehicle, driving a vehicle with incorrect number plates and possessing tainted property.

He is due to appear in the Richland Magistrates Court on May 3.
