Manhunt underway after body found in apartment fire in Melbourne's south-east

Police are calling for help to track down a man after a fire at an apartment in Melbourne's south-east led to a man's body being found.

Homicide detectives are searching for Ishmail Sozmen in relation to the incident in Dandenong on July 9.

Firefighters were called to a fire at an apartment building on McCrae Street about 8.15pm on that day.

A 27-year-old Dandenong man was then found dead inside.

A 27-year-old Meadow Heights man was charged with murder over the incident last week.

The man was also charged with intentionally causing injury in relation to a separate victim.

Police have released a photo of Mr Sozmen in the hope someone can provide information about where he is.

He is known to frequent the Dandenong and Meadow Heights areas and is described as being approximately 175cm tall with a medium build and brown hair.

Police are urging anyone who sights Mr Sozmen not to approach him and to contact Triple Zero (000) immediately.
