Dame Quentin setting up office at Qld uni
Former governor-general Quentin Bryce is setting up an office at Queensland University of Technology in central Brisbane.
Dame Quentin's new office will be in the university Chancellery on the riverside Gardens Point campus.
QUT vice-chancellor Peter Coaldrake said Dame Quentin had expressed an interest in September last year during a visit to the William Robinson Gallery at Old Government House.
"We had a bit of a conversation," Professor Coaldrake told ABC radio on Thursday.
"She was obviously giving some thought to where she would base herself after she's finished at Yarralumla."
Before serving as Queensland governor and becoming Australia's first female governor-general in 2008, Dame Quentin had been a law lecturer at the University of Queensland and the principal of the University of Sydney Women's College.
Professor Coaldrake said Dame Quentin's decision to set up an office in a university was a natural fit.
"When you think about it, for her to set up a base at a university was probably a fairly natural thing to do because Quentin Bryce has got a lifelong passion for education. She's got a commitment to social justice. She's got a particular interest in young women," he said.
"She probably wanted to be in the city as well. It seemed to work out."
Dame Quentin was conferred with an honorary doctorate from the Queensland University of Technology in 2004.
The grandmother of 10 returned to Brisbane on Wednesday to live at leafy Taringa, after leaving Government House in Canberra for the last time as governor-general.
All former governors-general and prime ministers are entitled to a taxpayer funded office.
