Cy Walsh allowed community visits, three years after killing coach father

Cy Walsh has been granted closely supervised visits into the community, three years after he killed his father, former Adelaide Crows coach Phil Walsh.

The 29-year-old is currently being held in James Nash House, a secure mental health facility, after stabbing his father to death at their Somerton Park home in July 2015.

Walsh ordered to remain in the facility indefinitely after being found not guilty of murder due to mental incompetence.

But the Supreme Court today approved Walsh's bid to be allowed escorted visits back into the community to help with his rehabilitation after being supplied with three psychiatric reports from doctors.

Prosecutors did not oppose the application saying any risk to the community could be safely managed.

The visits will occur during daytime hours and come three months after Walsh was granted medical leave to help treat his relapsing, remitting multiple sclerosis.

Walsh, who was clean-cut and wearing a shirt and tie as he appeared via video link from the facility, thanked the judge after the decision.

Walsh's mother has previously told the court she supports her son's release into the community and hopes they can one day move interstate together.
