The curtain is descending on The Long Way Home, the innovative theatre piece featuring defence personnel describing their experiences at war and back home.

In The Long Way Home, 13 defence members teamed with four professional actors to share a roller-coaster ride of emotions that resonated with audiences in performances across the nation.

The final performance will be at Perth's His Majesty's Theatre on Saturday.

Defence force chief General David Hurley said The Long Way Home was just one of the ways Defence was addressing the issues of those who have served in recent conflicts, including the impact of post-traumatic stress disorder.

"The production has helped further the important conversation on military mental health. It is a good start point, but we must continue to talk about the issue and reduce the stigma around mental health that still exists in Australia," he said in a statement.
