Woman charged over glassing attack on board cruise ship forcing its return to Sydney

The P&O cruise ship on which a man was struck with an empty wine bottle has docked in Sydney.

Tatiana Baladina, 37, has been charged over the alleged attack on the Pacific Explorer ship on Saturday night.

The cruise ship was on a three-night round trip out of Sydney when the incident occurred.

The Russian woman and her partner are understood to have clashed with a bucks party.

Police say Ms Baladina, a partner of one of the six men, "allegedly struck a 21-year-old man on the head with an empty wine bottle, causing a laceration".

Six men were subsequently released without charge pending further inquiries, while Marine Area Command investigators charged the woman, a Russian National, with reckless wounding and affray.

She was taken to Newtown Police Station, before being granted conditional bail and will appear at Downing Centre Local Court on March 9.

Passengers told 9NEWS the wild brawl broke out outside a bar called the Blue Room after a woman was “hit on” by a group of men, resulting in a person being glassed.

"It was one hell of a bucks party, that's it," one of the men told 9NEWS. 

"It was just boys being boys."

Another said "it just was a very good bucks party" despite being pulled off the boat by police and having his holiday cut short. 

“This is in line with our strict policy of zero tolerance of excessive behaviour that affects the safety, comfort and enjoyment of other guests,” a P&O Cruises’ statement stated.

“While these occurrences are rare, we have no hesitation in taking strong action when necessary that adheres to this policy.

“The group removed today will no longer be welcome to travel with P&O Cruises or any of its associated brands.”
