A US passenger accused of sexually harassing a cruise ship worker has been revealed to be a priest.

Amal Samy of Mount Vernon, Atlanta, has been charged with sexual abuse after allegedly exposing himself to a Carnival Cruise massage technician in August this year, Fox News reports.

Samy is a priest with the Archdiocese of Mobile in Atlanta.

The cruise worker claims during a massage appointment Samy attempted to touch her multiple times and asked her to perform a sexual act on him.

Samy denied removing a sheet during the massage but admitted to being naked underneath it.

"The Archdiocese of Mobile learned last week of the allegations of Father Amal Samy, HGN," a spokesperson for the church told US media WKRG.

"Father Samy denies the allegations. The Archdiocese takes all such allegations seriously. It is our policy not to comment on pending legal matters."

Samy is scheduled to face court today.
