Slain AFL coach Phil Walsh will be farewelled at a private memorial at the Adelaide Oval today.

Hundreds of people from the Australian football and sporting communities will converge on the Crows’ home ground to pay tribute to the popular mentor.

Walsh, 55, was allegedly stabbed to death by his son Cy in the early hours of July 3.

His wife Meredith and daughter Quinn, 22, are expected to attend today’s 3pm (ACST) service, which will not be open to the public.

It follows a private service for his family and friends on Friday.

Club officials began removing the huge array of tributes to Walsh outside Crows headquarters on Monday.

Personal messages and scarves will be photographed and digitised, with a resulting book to be given to the Walsh family and another put on display at the site.

Flowers will be mulched and used when a memorial tree is planted.

Cy Walsh has been charged with his father’s murder and remains in a secure psychiatric facility.

He will appear in court in September.
