Crossbench MP Fiona Patten calls for parliamentary probe into Crown Casino

Victorian upper house crossbench MP Fiona Patten has called for a parliamentary inquiry into Crown Casino after allegations of money laundering were revealed in a joint investigation by 60 Minutes, The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald.

The Reason Party leader wants to suspend debate in the Victorian upper house to immediately address the allegations and the role of the state's Commission for Gambling and Liquor Regulation.

"The gaming commission is not doing its job and the parliament needs to debate this," Ms Patten told reporters today.

The serious allegations included links to money laundering, drug dealing and organised crime, she said.

"This is the largest (single site) employer in Victoria, that has serious, very serious allegations against it. This is something the parliament should urgently deal with."

The cross-bench MP said she hoped to get support from the opposition and the government to deal with the issue in parliament.

But Liberal leader Michael O'Brien said the matter was being dealt with appropriately.

"We've said it's a job for the regulator, the regulator has very strong powers to get to the bottom of these matters," Mr O'Brien told reporters.

Earlier this month the state government ordered the regulator re-examine the allegations of money laundering raised by Nine media.

The casino is also subject to an Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission investigation and the federal government has referred the matter to the Australian Commission for Law Enforcement Integrity.

The NSW Independent Liquor and Gaming Authority will also investigate the sale of Crown Resorts shares to a Macau-based entertainment company.

Crown has denied the allegations.
