Two South Australians hospitalised with hepatitis A after eating recalled frozen pomegranates

Two South Australians have been hospitalised after eating the recalled Creative Gourmet frozen pomegranate, in the first cases of the disease for the state.

The frozen fruit product, sold at Coles supermarkets across Australia, was recalled last month after nine people fell ill after consuming the pomegranate arils.

One of the latest cases, a woman aged in her 60s, is in a serious condition and a young man is also ill.

Laboratory tests are yet to formally link the product to the Hep A cases, but the connection appears likely.

SA Health has warned more people could be about to fall ill, and is urging residents to check their freezers for the product.

They have advised any product with a use-by date between now and March 2020 could be contaminated, and have said it should be thrown out or returned for a full refund.
