Crime Stoppers tip-off leads to charge in 14-year-old fatal crash mystery

A man has been extradited to New South Wales from Queensland over a fatal crash near Wollongong 14 years ago, after a Crime Stoppers tip-off.

A 21-year-old man died and three young women were injured after a station wagon collided with a van on Buttenshaw Drive at Austinmer in July 2000.

A 38-year-old man was arrested at a home on Russell Island, south of Brisbane, late last week after a tip-off from a member of the public.

He was extradited to Sydney on the weekend where he was charged with a string of offences including dangerous driving occasioning death.

He has been refused bail and is due in Campbelltown Local Court tomorrow.
