Jammed crane hanging over Barangaroo street lowered to ground

A jammed crane left dangling high above a construction site in Sydney's CBD overnight has been lowered to the ground.
The crane got stuck while lowering a cherry-picker from the roof of Barangaroo's Tower One yesterday afternoon, leaving its load dangling 50 storeys above the site throughout the night.
The machinery was safely lowered to the ground this afternoon following an hours-long operation.
"We are pleased to advise that the load on the crane at Barangaroo Tower One has now been safely lowered," Andrew Wilson, developer Lendlease's Barangaroo managing director, said in a statement.
"Safety is always our number one priority and the precautionary exclusion zone remains in place with traffic management along the closed section of Hickson Road.
"We apologise for the inconvenience this matter has caused."
Motorists are still urged to avoid the area as parts of Hickson Road and Sussex Street remain closed as a precaution.
Pedestrians can still access Barangaroo via the Wynyard Walk and Sussex Street Bridge.
Police confirmed no injuries had been reported and the investigation would be handed over to SafeWork NSW.
