Burst water main causes property damage after sending bitumen flying in Adelaide's north

More than 80 properties were left without water and a house and car were damaged after a water main burst early this morning.

It happened on Uley Road in Craigmore just before 6am and the force of the burst sent bitumen and gravel flying.

Resident Paul Presbury said that after he opened his front door he could hear the gravel hitting the roof of the house next door, while water flooded his property.

"It was flowing through the carport and through the backyard, so it was just water everywhere," he said.

Witness Jye Argent said he thought the water was soaring about 10m into the air.

"There was water gushing out from the road and just smashing someone's house," he said.

A total of 83 homes in the area were left without water, and both lanes of traffic on Uley Road were closed to facilitate urgent repairs.

The main was later determined to be a worn-down service pipe, which was replaced and water supply was restored after approximately two and a half hours. 

The owner of the damaged car is now investigating an insurance claim.
