Cowboys fanatic unveils perfect Grand Final den

The North Queensland Cowboys are heading to Sydney for the competition's ultimate title, but fans at home will be keeping the light burning.

Cowboys fanatic Darryl Serrurier is ready to cheer the underdogs from his heavily-themed man-cave.

Mr Serrurier has plastered posters of newcomer heavyweights Jason Taumololo and Coen Hess on the front door of his rugby league refuge.

Taumololo, at lock, has been one of the Cowboys' best in their unstoppable charge to the finals.

Inside, more esoteric memorabilia lines the room, including a Santa Claus statue that sings the Cowboys team song when prompted.

He also has on the shelves some Cowboys-branded rum from 2015 - which may be getting a workout if they beat the Melbourne Storm on Sunday.

A signed caricature of injured great Jonathan Thurston came from a family member. 

"His uncle plays touch football with me, so (Thurston) signed it and gave it to us," Mr Serrurier said.

NRL grand finalist underdogs the North Queensland Cowboys have been farewelled by thousands of fans at Townsville airport.

The team took a tour through the city streets on a bus, giving fans the chance to farewell the team ahead of the grand final against the Melbourne Storm in Sydney on Sunday.

The send-off reached its climax in the airport terminal, where an army band also added to the atmosphere.

The Cowboys are underdogs but sentimental favourites for the grand final, with many fans betting they can upset the Storm.

Inspirational forward Taumololo has urged Sydneysiders to get behind the North Queensland team.

The Cowboys and the Storm will kick off for the Provan-Summons Trophy at 7.15pm (AEST) on Sunday.
