Sydney man admits stabbing real estate agent in self defence

A disturbing arrest video was among new evidence presented to the Supreme Court today, in relation to the murder of father-of-four Vissa Esan in Sydney last year.

Mr Esan was allegedly murdered during an altercation at his real estate agency in Pendle Hill, in Sydney’s west, in March.

“Put me down for starting the fight, honestly mate,” accused Adam Brewer says in the arrest video, which was played to the court.

“For the record, I stabbed the bloke first with a knife.”

Brewer claimed that he noticed that Mr Esan had left some fruit on the doorstep, and that he took it inside.

Mr Esan was concerned that Mr Brewer was an intruder, and “struck the accused on a number of occasions with a broomstick,” the Crown Prosecutor told the court.

Police allege a second fight then took place, which saw Mr Esan fatally stabbed.

Mr Brewer then allegedly ran away and changed clothes.

He was later arrested by police a short distance away.

“He hit me a thousand times first before I f---ed him, but, you know, enough was enough,” he said on the arrest video.

Mr Brewer has pleaded not guilty. His barrister, Peter Skinner, told the court his client will argue that he acted in self-defence.
