Driver charged after car smashes into Melbourne home, injuring couple

A driver has been charged after a car crashed into a home in Melbourne overnight, trapping and injuring a couple in their 70s.

The man and woman were asleep inside their home on Fairbairn Road in Sunshine West about 1.30am when a car crashed through their bedroom wall.

The couple were trapped in their bed under rubble before firefighters could rescue them.

They suffered minor injuries and were taken to hospital.

Images from the scene showed the impact was at a speed high enough to leave the home's letterbox on the roof.

A 39-year-old Kings Park man was arrested at the scene.

He has this afternoon been charged with a range of offences including reckless conduct endangering life, reckless conduct endangering serious injury, fail to have proper control of vehicle, careless driving and possess methamphetamine.

He will face Sunshine Magistrates' Court later today.
