Man stabbed and woman beaten in Wagga Wagga street attack

A woman has been hit in the head and a man is in a critical condition in a southern NSW hospital after being stabbed twice in the back.

The couple were assaulted by a group of men outside their Wagga Wagga home early this morning.

Police said the man, 31, was talking with the noisy group when his girlfriend asked them to leave.

"It's alleged one of the men from the group hit the woman in the head. The woman's partner went to help her and was stabbed twice in the back," police said.

The woman, 32, suffered cuts to her head and was taken to Wagga Wagga Base Hospital, where her partner remains in a critical condition.

A crime scene has been established and investigations continue.
