The governor-general is en route to France to represent Australia on Bastille Day.
Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said Sir Peter Cosgrove would depart on Monday for the July 14 commemorations, at his request, to mark 100 years since Australian and French soldiers fought side by side to defend France.
"Australia and France have a strong and enduring relationship which is anchored in history, common interests and shared values," Mr Turnbull said.
