The deputy chair of the Australian Securities and Investments Commission has resigned after seven years at the corporate watchdog.

Peter Kell will leave on December 6, after also working at the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission.

ASIC has been under increased scrutiny at the banking royal commission over the way it has handled bad behaviour by financial institutions.
