Health workers 'overwhelmed' by support from public at crucial COVID-19 hospital
Inside the emergency department of Westmead Hospital in Sydney, in a small corridor linking the lunch room with the clinical space, is a growing wall of appreciation for the work medical teams are doing.
People have begun to recognise that emergency teams like Westmead will be the front line troops fighting COVID-19.

They're letting those teams know they have the support of the public – sending them care-packs of groceries, medical gear and delicious baked goods.
"They're almost overwhelmed, actually," emergency physician Dr Kavita Varshney told 9News.
"To be receiving that kind of community support, it's wonderful."

"Our staff are very humbled by these cards and are very proud to serve the community," emergency department director Dr Matthew Vukasovic said.
The public has also been doing its bit, with emergency department numbers in rapid decline as people adapt to telemedicine.
And the messages of support aren't just for the emergency department health workers, but for all the frontline staff at Westmead – from the top surgeons, to the cleaners on night shift.
