Two Omicron cases found in Victorian community, taking state's case tally to three

Two cases of Omicron have been found in the Victorian community, while several other COVID-19 cases in the state are also suspected to be the new variant of the virus.

The new cases take Victoria's total number of known Omicron cases to three, with a case having been confirmed within hotel quarantine on Wednesday.

The two cases which have been announced today both arrived in Melbourne on a flight from Dubai on November 30.

Genomic sequencing is under way to confirm if a third COVID-positive person on the flight is also carrying the Omicron variant.

The Department of Health has contacted all other potential contacts who were on the flight and asked them to get a PCR test for COVID-19.

The department is investigating two other cases of COVID-19 who could potentially have Omicron, but have no link to interstate or overseas travel.
