Shepparton records 12 COVID-19 cases in just hours, testing sites inundated

A city in regional Victoria has now recorded 12 cases of COVID-19 today, sparking the question of lockdown returning outside Greater Melbourne.

Victoria's COVID-19 Commander Jeroen Weimar at midday revealed a Kialla man in his 30s had tested positive to coronavirus this morning, on top of the state's 57 new recorded cases.

Goulburn Valley Health has this afternoon confirmed an extra eleven people have tested positive in Shepparton.

The man's wife and four children all returned positive results this afternoon.

The primary school the man's children attend, St Mel's Primary School, and its connected kinder was this morning closed for deep cleaning.

Shepparton Tutoring Centre on Wyndham Street has also been added to the list of Victorian COVID-19 exposure sites as a Tier One site.

Someone with the virus is said to have been at the centre between 4pm and 6pm on Tuesday.

Anyone else who was there at the time must get tested and isolate immediately.

All four of Greater Shepparton Secondary Collage's Campuses have also been named Tier One sites, with parents told during the day to collect their children.

Goulburn Valley Health Chief Executive Matt Sharp this afternoon said the infected Kialla man's extended family, who lived in a separate household, were also being tested and isolating.

Two of them have since tested positive for the virus.

Testing sites across Shepparton have been inundated with residents today.

Premier Daniel Andrews at midday said a return to lockdown in regional lockdown was not out of the question following the positive case.

"Nothing is ruled out - nothing," he said.

However, Mr Andrews said no changes to regional restrictions had been made at the time.

Shepparton is almost 200km north of Melbourne.

Today is the first time during the state's outbreak that a case has been diagnosed in regional Victoria.
