Exposure site fears for WA as two truck drivers test positive to COVID-19

Western Australian contract tracers are racing to trace the movements of two truck drivers who entered the state and later tested positive to COVID-19.

The truck drivers entered WA on Thursday December 9 from South Australia in two separate instances.

Both were fully vaccinated and had previously tested negative after completing a rapid-antigen test at the border.

They had also undertaken a PCR test 72 hours before entering the state.

It was after they returned to SA they returned a positive result.

One truck driver was in the community for 72 hours, while the other was for 24 hours before returning to South Australia.

"It is possible both men were infectious during the three days they were in WA," WA Health Minister Roger Cook said.

"The public is urged to check the list of exposure sites and get tested immediately if they have been to one of those sites and quarantine until you return a negative result.

"More exposure sites may be added throughout the day as the contact tracing team cross-checks information."

Initial exposure sites include:

• Norseman BP truck stop - December 9
• Moran's IGA Xpress, Coolgardie - December 9
• Crust Pizza, Cannington - December 9
• Chemist Warehouse, Cannington - December 10
• BP truck stop, Kewdale - December 10
• Woolworths Bentley Plaza - December 10
• Norseman BP Truckstop - December 11

It comes as the state today recorded one new coronavirus cases in a traveller from overseas.

That person is isolating in hotel quarantine.

To date, 80.3 per cent of eligible Western Australian's are now fully-vaccinated.
