Snap closure of businesses, schools, after COVID-19 exposure could end

Snap closures of businesses and schools exposed to a COVID-19 case in Sydney could soon be a thing of the past.

From Monday, changes to isolation requirements come into effect, meaning if someone is fully vaccinated and exposed to the virus, they only need to quarantine for one week.

The NSW Government is focusing on minimising disruption, and 9News understands COVID-safety protocols in schools will make shutdowns unnecessary.

Currently, businesses or schools linked to a COVID-19 cases must close for two weeks.

And when students return to the classroom, all staff must be fully vaccinated.

From Monday, businesses will take responsibility for telling staff about positive cases. If three or more employees test positive in a week then NSW Health will get involved.

Although the latest testing and isolation protocol for vaccinated people was only released this week, it's already under review and could change again.
