ACT records seven new local coronavirus cases

The Australian Capital Territory has recorded seven new local COVID-19 cases, Chief Minister Andrew Barr has revealed.

This is a dip after a spike of 30 cases on Friday. It's the first day with a single-digit case number since August 25.

All of today's cases are linked and most are household contacts.

"What has been clear over the past five weeks is that daily case numbers have fluctuated," Mr Barr said.

Today the ACT will reach its vaccine target of 80 per cent of the population aged 12 and over having at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine.

"There are still around 50,000 people waiting for a first dose through an ACT Government clinic," Mr Barr said.

"We are a week closer to having administered first doses to everyone who wants one, and the balance of our vaccination program will soon shift to second doses and significantly pick up pace."

There are five people in the ACT with the virus. Two are in ICU, and one is ventilated.

Mr Barr said today he has not outlined a detailed roadmap out of lockdown yet because there is still uncertainty.

He has foreshadowed an announcement on what October or November might look like next week.

"I can absolutely guarantee there would be no overnight changes," he said in relation to giving notice to businesses and venues wanting to prepare to reopen.

"There will be more detail ... but I don't want to create a misleading set of guidelines and we are very conscious we can deliver more certainty the closer we are to a particular time frame," Mr Barr added.

There is also a delay in the territory's latest shipment of Pfizer vaccines, meaning the ACT cannot expand its rollout through its mass vaccination hubs.
