'The travel bubble has stood the test of time so far'

Australian Trade and Tourism Minister Dan Tehan is confident state borders will remain open despite NSW recording a new local case of COVID-19.

Mr Tehan is confident NSW would get on top of the latest threat of outbreak.

"(We) want to trust our contact tracing and our testing. The community understands the importance of making sure that they get tested, if they have got a sore throat or any symptoms," Mr Tehan told Today.

Mr Tehan said keeping borders open was the best thing Australia could do to support the 600,000 jobs in the country's tourism industry and he was confident the New Zealand trans-Tasman bubble wouldn't be affected.

"The travel bubble has stood the test of time so far. We have had some small outbreaks and it's remained open," Mr Tehan said.

"I think it is a credit to the way New Zealand and Australia officials have been able to operate the bubble."

While states across Australia are closely monitoring the situation unfolding in NSW, borders remain open with precautionary measures in place.

New Zealand is also keeping the trans-Tasman bubble open with Australia, today launching their latest tourism campaign in a bid to get more Aussies to holiday across the pond.

General Manager of Tourism New Zealand, Andrew Waddel said quarantine-free travel was vital to the country's tourism industry.

"Previously, Australians made up 40 per cent of international arrivals to New Zealand, showing how vital quarantine-free travel is for the tourism industry and its recovery," Mr Waddel said in a statement.

"While many are reconnecting with friends and family, 80 per cent of future visitors are looking to take a holiday."

NSW on high alert after fresh local case of COVID-19

Thousands of people across Sydney are on high alert with the list of Sydney venues visited by an infectious COVID-19 patient expands to include a golf club, a gym, a chemist and a supermarket.

Fourteen suburbs are on high alert with NSW Health expanding the health alert overnight to almost 20 venues.

Fragments of the coronavirus have also been detected in the Marrickville sewage network, servicing about 42,000 people.

Authorities urged residents of Dulwich Hill, Marrickville, Summer Hill, Lewisham, Ashfield, Haberfield, Petersham, Lilyfield and Leichhardt to be "especially vigilant" in monitoring for symptoms and getting tested.
