'So happy': South Australians return to dancefloors as restrictions lift

South Australians put their dancing shoes on today and returned to dancefloors for the first time since March last year.

Restrictions on dancing lifted at 12.01pm, which allowed residents to attend parties with up to 999 people in venues across the state.

At businesses with less than 200 patrons, people are now free to dance without restrictions.

Cry Baby nightclub owner Jon Di Pinto said the move "was like a weight getting lifted off everyone's shoulders", as patrons danced at his venue in Adelaide.

"Everyone seems so happy," Mr Di Pinto said.

"I think a lot more people will be more happy to come out and spend some time in the city now that they can go and have a dance."

For venues with a capacity between 200 and 999, there is a 50-person limit on dancefloors and it must be in a designated area.

Venues with 1000 people or more need to submit an updated COVID-19 action plan and gain approval before any dancing can take place.

The easing of border restrictions in the state is also giving people reasons to celebrate.

From today, those coming in from the greater Melbourne area are no longer required to quarantine, or be tested upon entry into SA.

Though many are paying a hefty price to be among the first arrivals.

"It's like 500 dollars to get here but it's what we need to do," one traveller told 9News.

However some are willing to foot the bill so they attend special occasions, such as hens parties and milestone birthdays.

With the last of the restrictions with Victoria now lifted, South Australia is once again open to all states.

But travellers into SA will still have to complete their cross border travel form before they're let in.
