Another coronavirus death linked to Ruby Princess cruise ship

Another coronavirus deaths has been linked to the Ruby Princess cruise ship, after a woman died in the ACT from the virus at the weekend.

The cruise ship arrived at Circular Quay on March 19 and allowed some 2700 passengers to disembark despite some travellers having respiratory symptoms.

Some passengers travelled interstate, and yesterday three crew members were removed from the ship, still floating off Sydney, with serious coronavirus symptoms.

The most recent victim was a woman in her 80s who died in Canberra Hospital at the weekend, and ACT Health Minister Rachel Stephen-Smith said health authorities would not be releasing any more personal details.

"At the request of the family however, I can confirm that the woman who unfortunately passed away contracted COVID-19 on the Ruby Princess Cruise ship," she said.

The under-fire cruise ship has been linked to 221 coronavirus cases in NSW, and many more around the country after passengers disembarked and travelled domestically before self-isolating.

Last week a man in Western Australia died from the virus contracted on board the ship.

The man, aged in his 70s, collapsed at home and was pronounced dead at Joondalup Hospital just 25 hours after seeking medical help.
