Another student infected with COVID-19 in Queensland

Another Queensland student has been found to be infected with COVID-19 in home quarantine.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the single local case recorded today was not of concern, being already linked to the Sunnybank cluster. 

The 15-year-old girl is a student at St Thomas More College and a close contact of an existing case.

Ms Palaszczuk said Queensland Health had delivered 20,928 vaccines in the last 24 hours, with 56.68 per cent of the population having had at least one dose of vaccine. 

Already, 9000 doses have been administered to children aged 12 to 15, after that age group became eligible yesterday. 

Ms Palaszczuk said a further 15,127 children in that age group were booked in. 

The premier said sitting hours would be extended in the state parliament today and tomorrow, as MPs vote on a landmark voluntary assisted dying bill. 

"We have been working on this together as a cabinet, and it's a conscience vote for members of my government," she said. 

"This week will be devoted to voluntary assisted dying.

"There has been three years of consultation on this bill, and this is the opportunity for this historic law reform to actually pass through the Queensland Parliament."
