Sydney tradies fined for COVID-19 breaches after allegedly travelling to South Coast

Eight construction workers from Sydney local government areas of concern have been issued fined $1000 each for breaching COVID-19 health orders on the state's South Coast.

Police allege the workers travelled from Sydney to work on a building site in Kiama.

Following a tip-off, officers went to a home at Kiama Downs on Monday night to investigate and speak with the occupants.

On Tuesday morning, police attended the work site at Collins Street, Kiama, and allege a number of workers ran to a nearby carpark to avoid them.

Officers spoke with the manager and 33 workers from the site.

After inquiries police issued eight $1000 fines to eight construction workers who were found to be in breach of public health orders.

The workers were from declared at-risk local government areas – four from Bayside, two from Fairfield and two from Blacktown.

Building workers from LGAs of concern are not permitted to travel into regional NSW for work.

Workers from Greater Sydney must take a COVID-19 test every seven days to travel into regional NSW for work.
