NSW considering stronger border measures for Victorians amid coronavirus spike

The NSW Premier is considering stronger border measures for people travelling into Sydney from Melbourne as coronavirus cases in Victoria continue to rise.

Currently anyone landing at Sydney Domestic Airport from the hotspot it allowed to catch a taxi or Uber to their approved place of self-isolation.

However, there are concerns this could be putting unknowing drivers at risk of catching and spreading the virus.

Ms Berejiklian said there are health officials waiting at Sydney Airport to screen people arriving from Melbourne, many of whom are NSW residents returning home.

"There are various checks in place, and if we need to do more, we will," she said today.

"As we've been saying for weeks, the health advice is evolving.

"We respond according to what is going on in our state and what we foresee might happen if we don't take certain actions, and we are always on our toes about what we might need to do to keep things as tight as possible," Ms Berejiklian said.

Dozens of flights are still arriving from Melbourne every day.

This morning, Local Government Minister Shelley Hancock told Ben Fordham she plans to raise the issue with NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard today.

People landing in Sydney yesterday told 9News they had their temperatures checked and paperwork checked and then they were free to leave.

"They gave us a set of rules that we have to follow, and they checked us and that's all," one man said.
